More Than A Few Words About Haters….

I follow several people on YouTube and one of my favorites is Gossmakeupartist. He made the most relevant video the other day and I thought I’d share it. I hate to even give negative behavior any energy but this video really touched me. It was good to hear someone else goes through the same things that I do if that makes any sense. If you don’t have a blog or YouTube channel chances are you might not know how much “hate” there is out there. Let me tell you that there is a LOT.

I started on YouTube over a year ago and I went into it with so much enthusiasm and thought there would be nothing but positive happy things and interactions that would follow. I’m a dreamer and I thought if a few people watched if they didn’t like what I had to say we could have constructive debates about stuff. HA! I found out very fast that there was another unhappy element or addition to the comments section I’d have to deal with after making videos. I like Gossmakeupartist refer to them as the haters.

Now when I say hater I don’t mean someone who doesn’t like me. It’s your god given right to hate my guts and I’m good with that. But when you tell me your going to hurt me, call me a female dog, tell me how much you hate black people, or make fun of the way I look that’s just ridiculous. Most people are their own worst critics! I cringe when I watch myself, most people do! But when I don’t like something (blog or YouTube channel) I just move on. I don’t need to tell someone they suck. One of the first things you learn when you do anything is that you can’t be all things to all people. There is a certain amount of people your just right for-concentrate on THEM! Unfortunately some out there feel the need to just run off at the mouth. Here are some examples of real comments I’ve gotten…remember I get comments like this everyday so this is just a sampling of the “love” I encounter!

Comment 1:
STOP BEING ANNOYING YOUR VOICE IS WHITE GIRL WITH A STICK UP HER A#%!
My response:
TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM YOUR YOUTUBE PAGE: ”The best thing is not to hate anyone, only to love. That is the only way out of it. As soon as you have forgiven those whom you hate, you have gotten rid of them. Then you have no reason to hate them; you just forget.” YOUR KIND OF A LIAR AREN’T YOU….HI HATER!!!
Comment 2:
You weak ass hoe! Want you go buy more makeup!! And pls don’t tell me ur a MA, because ur skills are wack! Get a grip wack hoe!
My response:
Whats really wack is that you called me a “hoe” twice and spelled it wrong both times….what do you do in your free time spelling champion?
Needless to say I don’t respond nowadays….in the beginning I thought I’d respond but it’s pointless! I have a sharp tongue and I’ve always been one of those people who doesn’t need to cuss you out, but give me an opening and I’ll let the world see your flaws!

On a positive note I’m so happy doing what I do and there are a zillion more people that appreciate it and love sharing their knowledge and love of makeup with me so it’s best just to ignore the others. The biggest complements come in comments I get everyday also. People tell me they appreciate me reviewing products and that I help them make better choices when it comes to buying stuff. That means the world to me!
Here’s the video Gossmakeupartist made. If you have time please watch, he talks about the fact that the law is catching up with some of the worst offenders/haters and he makes fun of the comments people make about him.

it is so awful that people have to be so mean. It is one thing to give constructive criticisms but just saying hateful things about the person is mean. I’ve seen people get bitched out because they say something constructive people will be mean to them back saying that they are a troll or a hater and that they should go F themselves. It is just awful that everyone gets hate. You do something I couldn’t, I couldn’t put myself on camera like that for everyone to watch, and I admire everyone who does that because it is hard to do. Sorry you get hate comments :-( if it helps I love your videos and I feel like I’m talking to a friend when I watch you.

Thank you so much. I know what you mean though I think some are over-sensitive to any type of comment because they are upset about the mean comments and they are lashing out. I would rather someone teach me the right way to do something or give me gold advice than call me names. I wanna learn:) Lol! Thank you so much. It comes with the territory and the worse thing I could do is let it stop me from doing what I have fun doing right:) I really appreciate you watching and commenting.

I don’t know how anyone could hate on you. You are so cute and funny! I discovered your channel by accident about a month ago, and you have quickly become one of my favs. You get so excited about things, and that kind of excitement is not obnoxious, it’s infectious. Simply put, I adore you. And not in some weird stalker kind of way, I promise!

Thank you so much I really enjoy talking to everyone and I’m so glad you adore me cause I adore you right back! Thanks again and don’t be a stranger:)

It’s horrible that someone gutless could talk freely on the internet and not know that it hurts. Your videos are nothing but good, please don’t let them get you down. They’re just jealous of you because you’re beautiful and successful in the Youtube and blogger community. Don’t stop doing what you love because of one person, instead let it be inspiration that you are rising above that hater! Wish you more success Crystal!

I also forgot to mention that it takes a lot of courage and confidence to be on FB. I wish I had your courage. You have a lot more positive people than the negative folks supporting you. You are an attractive woman with confidence so forget the haters. Stay blessed! :)

  5. Linda says

So sorry to hear about those ‘haters.’ You’re a great woman. Ignore them. I’ve come to realize some people are just very miserable individuals. Stay beautiful and let the ugly personalities deal w/ their insecurities. Love your blog! Thanks for all you do.

Imagine being my age and getting twice as many negative comments as you… not once have I blocked anyone, responded back or deleted any comments…once you’ve lived throug racial segregation… you can rub-off just about anything.

Honey, please don’t stop this blog or your youtube. I love them both. I just found you in January and you are by far my top 3 and I am a serious makeup addict. There is a lot of hate out there and you have to be strong and realize that these people are sick. So please keep your head up and keep up the good work — I am looking forward to reading and listening to everything you post. In fact, I just ordered the smash box photo op set from qvc mostly bc of you. Can’t wait to get it. Thanks again for being you. Stay strong and let the haters fall back.

That’s really sad. :( It’s sad that there are still people hating on other people for their race. I’m Filipina, and I’m subscribed to a lot of Youtubers all over the world (including you). I’m even subscribed to a Japanese girl who just has subtitles so that other people can understand her.
I hope you don’t stop making videos. Just focus on the people who appreciate you for what you do. I know there are more of us out there, than there are haters. :)

    • says

Thanks, that is what makes YouTube so unique and fun. Where else can you talk about your love of makeup with people from places all over the globe! I won’t stop and thank you for commenting:)

I can’t believe that anyone would hate on you. There is soo much hatred on YT and blogs but you know what? You’re obviously doing something right to get hate…
I don’t know about you but I’ve decided that my reply to a hate comment would be a simple “lol” , very simple and effortless.
Keep doing what you do because I LOVE IT!
    Xoxo

Redamndiculous! Hmph! They’re just mad that you are doing your thing and people are actually supportive of you! In the words of Dwight from the Real Housewives of Atlanta….how dreadful! You keep doing your thing because obviously a lot of people enjoy it and think you’re a cool person. Myself included :) I watched Gossmakeupartist video too and I was like right on! *fist in the air* Silly people! Smh.

I can’t believe people would say mean things. They need to just get a life and move on. If they don’t like what you have to say, click on the next video. I’m sorry that you have to put up with that kind of stuff when all you are doing is being passionate about something you love and helping the rest of us make better informed choices at the make up counter. Please keep up the great work. I love watching your videos and look forward to getting your blog updates in my email box.

    • says

Thank you so much, I will never stop cause of a few crazy people but like you I don’t see why people don’t just move on. Life’s too short to talk smack and it doesn’t get anyone anywhere!

  13. Rene says

P.S. I forgot to say that I was raised that if you don’t have anything nice to say , don’t say anything at all. I wish more You Tubers subscribed to that notion.

    • says

I was raised the same way! I think there is something seriously wrong when people get something out of saying mean things to others. I would feel horrible if I made someone else feel bad but thats just me.

I, too, adore Wayne Goss! And both you and he are spot on about those lifeless, miserable haters. And we all know that misery loves company. I don’t make YouTube videos(I’m too shy/scared to be on camera), but I love watching all of the gurus that I follow….and yes, that includes you, Crystal! I have read some of the heinous comments that mean girls have said to some of the gurus in YouTube land. It’s even more vile that these haters have made an actual website “dedicated” to basing the innocent people on YT! Like who does that!?

Honey, what it ALL boils down to is pure jealousy of the products that you guys buy and review/demo for us! That’s what it’s all about in a nutshell. They hate the fact that there are people out there who are able to afford high end makeup brands and they see it as being unfair and assume that the gurus are just bragging! Well, we all know what they say about those who assume! I for one, prefer watching you gurus who review the high end brands, because let’s face it, most of the time they’re just better! Duh! Lol.

And me, being a woman of color, the somewhat more expensive brands, such as NARS(which is my absolute fave), are just better for me. They work much better & look better. Quality speaks for itself. I also feel that these haters think that you guys are getting paid loads of money for these videos and that you’ll end up famous! And if that is ever the case, then so be it! It’s really nobody’s business. So, basically, all I can say Crystal, is continue being your sweet self and as they say…. DO YOU! Please keep making videos because at the end of the day, there are more people out there who love you than hate you! :-) xoxo

Thank you so much, very well said. I know its silly name calling and totally worth ignoring. I started out because I had some trouble finding someone of my skin tone that tried the brands that I wanted to explore. After time things have opened up, I’ve come to realize that from the lightest shades to the deepest when it all comes down to it we all are enjoying our love for makeup on blogs and Youtube. I watch people from all over the globe and when it comes down to it finding a great gloss or lipstick is exciting! And things are constantly evolving I love the high end stuff more than I used to, I get more use out of Nars products for example and the quality is amazin! Thanks so much Fancy and have a great rest of the week!

It is astounding how much energy people expend toward hate and violence. Quite frankly, I’m not that into makeup, I can hardly apply basic powder (lol) but between working full-time and grad school, the blogs that I subscribed to is a welcome break in the day for me. Your personality shines through in each posting/video, that what’s keep me coming back.

Your ‘haters’ will only make you a stronger person. It worked for me by proving them wrong.

Your best weapon against those who are against you is “ignore”.

    Best of luck!

    • says

I will ignore them you are so right. Thank you so much and I really appreciate you coming by on breaks from your busy schedule. Working and going to school is so hard, its two full time jobs! Much continued success to you and thanks so much for commenting.

I’ve gotten the “white girl voice” comments in my real life and my son has also. I don’t mind it though because I’d rather be able to express myself in a manner that is conducive with a) being professional and b) NOT being ignorant than to speak in a way that portrays me (however untrue it may be) as “ghetto”. I think that it’s sad that being educated or sounding educated is viewed as something negative. As far as YT negativity, it never ceases to amaze me. I ran across this website (that I will not mention by name here because I refuse to give them clicks.. I’m mad at myself for clicking but I was shocked that such a site existed..) and it’s basically a place where “women” trash YT gurus. Seriously. Like, I don’t understand how pathetic you have to be that you take time out of your life to obsess over someone that you claim that you don’t like. It would be one thing if it were criticism about the person’s skills, but a lot of it (an overwhelming majority) is comments on how the person is ugly, dumb, sounds stupid, or thinks that they’re “all that” because they can afford MAC. It’s sad. I ran across it and it blew my mind. In my world, when I don’t like something or someone, I keep it moving. I cannot imagine how sad your life must be to dwell on such things. At any rate, you are AWESOME. I adore your videos and blog because it’s hard for WOC to find QUALITY swatches of any makeup products, but especially the high end products. Keep doing what you’re doing and forget what a hater has to say. They’re still giving you clicks haha.

    • says

I heard about those sites and I wondered if there were support groups for the peeps that are so obsessed with someone that they have to bash them. I remember when I first started I took a look at one of those sites and I was like this is a area I don’t want to visit again. I expected it to be about people not relaying the right info about products but it was basically all about trashing someone. I have always kept it moving if I didn’t like something too! Life is too short. You can find a video you like better faster than it takes to put someone down in a comment. Thanks so much for watching videos and visiting the blog!

I enjoy your videos and your blog. I’m saddened you have to deal with such SPECIAL people. Keep up the excellent work!
