Sound Off: Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Yay or Nay?

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette ($27)

Have you seen the latest from Urban Decay? It’s a smaller palette full of matte shades. I’ve taken a look at a number of reviews from Temptalia and Makeup and Beauty Blog to name a few but I still wonder if this is for me.

I really love matte shadows. I’m a fool for them but I love matte colors mostly and these are neutrals. I have an Inglot Power of Matte palette that I live for. It’s got every color I could ever want to use in matte form but no neutrals. So basically I’m torn. I have both the Naked and Naked 2 palettes and I don’t think this is needed if you have both. Am I wrong? What do you think? Will you be snapping this up from Ulta, Sephora, or Urban Decays website on the 29th? Or is it a pass for you?

Let me know:)

That breaks down to $4.50 a piece. Not sure total grams for product. I would say “yay” to anyone starting out that likes a natural look. I have SO MANY neutrals that it would NOT be worth it for me. So for me personally – NAY.

I hear ya! Thats a great way to think about whether this is worth it. Breaking it down to the cost per color helps but if you take a look at your stash this might not be a good fit depending on what you have.

What UD needed to do was not release a small supplemental matte palette. In my opinion, it’s very limiting as far as what you can do with it. Instead, I (as well as just about everyone I know) would like for them to release a palette very similar to the Lorac ProPalette. The thing that makes that particular palette so great is that it contains an equal amount of mattes and shimmers. It also includes a full spectrum of colors, with light, mid-tone, and dark colors. I’m not buying a smaller “naked palette” just to supplement my other naked palettes. I love my naked palettes. But I rarely reach for then now that I have the ProPalette. It’s just so much more convenient. I really think UD kind of missed the boat with this one.

Well said. I think that the trend toward mixing equally mattes and shimmers is a bigger draw for everyone. I picked up the Laura Mercier Artists Palette (sephora exclusive i think!) just because its so convenient and useful. And the Lorac Pro Palette is one of the most usable palettes I own!

Nay all the way! Seems pretty boring if you ask me and anyone who is truely into makeup will have these collors in their collection.

Ugh! I was super excited when I heard UD was making an all matte palette! I thought to myself finally, thinking it would include neutrals and colors…so this is disappointing. I mean it is a good value considering UD individual shadows are about $18 a pop and you’re getting 6. However, I own the Sonia Kashuk eye on neutral palette which has 12 matte neutral shades ranging from vanillas, peachy pinks, browns, and a gray & a great black. The pigmentation is on point without being chalky and the best part is that the whole thing is only $20! Yes, the pans are not as big as the UD ones and I use it religiously every day so they take a beating from me but I’ve had it since the beginning of summer and I only just hit pan on 2 of them. I love UD but this was disappointing. I still might pick it up however just to add to my collection and I know I’ll use every single color. Hm, decisions.

I love reading your blog–and the comments. I now want to hunt down the Sonia Kashuk on neutral palette that another reader recommends. {*_*} As for the UD matte palette–it may be just a tad bit too boring for the price. It probably wouldn’t show up well on my eyelids.

Its a NAY for me. The colors (or lack thereof) don’t interest me and unless I wanted a basic travel palette I don’t see the point since I already own Naked 2 and the Build Your Own Palette . I am drawn to bright colors and shimmery eye shadows so maybe I’m not the demographic for this palette.

I saw it but didn’t really look look at until you asked me had I seen it. I looked and Muse and Temptalia’s post on it. It looks nice and I’m kind of tempted BUT I lightweight still want to pick up the Naked 2 palette. I’m a neutrals whore so I have more than enough neutrals as is. So I’m going to say nay for me and you lol!

Nay. Own both Nakeds, Vice, Smoked, 15th Anniversary and the newer build your own palettes. Would so much love to have a muted/darker hued matte color palette!! Does anyone know of such a palette? This would be the Ultimate palette. UD does so many shimmery/glittery shadows, not many mattes. Love UD eyeshadows and liners though.

Nay for me but this would be something I would buy for my mom. I feel like this would be a great palette for everyday use and it looks like it would fit nicely in your purse because it’s half the size of the other naked palettes. I just wish they would have included a deeper brown that’s not quite as black because that is what is really missing from the other 2 palettes and excluded foxy because it’s the worst color of the previous nakeds. It’s completely invisible on my skin tone and it’s chalky.

ive been wanting an UD all matte palette for a VERY long time, but for me, this is a nay. i was hoping for a colorful matte palette…. i hope they come out with that next year…

  11. Demeatrice says

LOL!! I knew you would have something posted on your blog about this palette!! I was excited when I got the email from Urban Decay but after reading the posts I have decided it is a NAY for me also!! I mean I have more neutrals than anything else and don’t need this….for now…lol!! I have had my eye on the Lorac Pro Palette so maybe I will try that one.

  12. Chrissy says

Actually I went ahead ans ordered it. I don’t have either naked palette, i know I know I’m the only person in the world that doesn’t lol. But I do have the mally neutral platte and I love it! I picked this up because I needed some good matte colors. It just shipped so I can’t wait to get it and try it out! I hope I don’t regret it!

  13. Natalie G says

Nay, the colors don’t look that exciting. Not only that, for the price I don’t really think it’s worth it. I already own the Naked 2 and I absolutely love it. It has many more colors and you can do so much looks with them. I already own similar colors from other brand names. So I’ll be saving my money for something else.
