Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (Swatched!)

Urban Decay Naked Basics, $27

I’ve been playing with this palette for a few weeks and I must say I like it a lot more than I thought I would! I’m a serious matte eyeshadow lover but still I kind of rolled my eyes (a LOT) when this came out. I would have liked to see a small series of these to be honest. I think it would have been interesting to have this and maybe two other “basic” palette options. I love color so I would have loved a palette of matte purples/blues and then another of greens/grays you get the idea right? At $27 they could have really come out with basics of every color for us all! Maybe they will continue down this road but till then lets talk Naked Basics.

Ahhh the colors….

Color description from Sephora.com:

Set of 6/0.05 oz eye shadows-

Venus (soft, off-white demi-matte), Foxy (very light yellow/white matte), Walk of Shame (very light nude matte), Naked2 (taupe matte), Faint (warm, dusty brown matte) and Crave (deepest, darkest brown/black matte)

And now the swatches:

Venus, Foxy, W.O.S, Naked 2, Faint, and Crave

Venus, Foxy, W.O.S, Naked 2, Faint, and Crave

I just have a few things that aren’t a big deal but I have to say them. This is hard to open. Don’t even think about breaking this palette open if your nails aren’t fully dry. I’ve messed up a fresh manicure twice on this palette…..grrr. The colors included are good picks I’d say overall. I think if you really take a hard look at the swatches above you will realize what I did after using this on my lids for a while. Foxy, W.O.S, and Naked 2 are very similar on my skin tone. Almost interchangeable in the looks I did with this palette. The color variation is minimal and when blending your shadows out very hard to tell apart. I kind of wish they’d gone for a matte color that is right between Naked 2 and Faint. Or maybe a matte gray placed right between Faint and Crave….

But over all I think this is a nice palette to have if you love mattes or if these types of colors are your favorite. These colors are perfect for work or days when you don’t have a lot of time. At $27 I love that this is an option if shimmer isn’t your thing or $50 Urban Decay palettes! The pigmentation is excellent. These are smooth easy to use matte eyeshadow shades.

On my NC50 skin this palette works really well! I’d just advise not to stay to the left (to the left ahhh Beyonce Irreplaceable is in my head now!) too much or else your going to have some seriously spooky eyes. Use the deeper mattes to even/blend things out girl or else!

    Hi Crystal
Thanks for the swatches. I’ll skip this palette as it doesn’t give many options to dark skin NW45-NC50. I wish they would add Buck from Naked palette though instead of WOS or foxy.
