Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay Cologne

A while ago I got a sample spray of Jo Malone’s newest fragrance Blackberry & Bay at Neiman’s. On my way home from the store I sniffed myself (get your mind out of the gutter..) the whole way. I love fruity and flowery scents. That’s mostly what I have in my fragrance stash but this is a special one. It’s not syrupy sweet or a flower bomb that hits you in the face.

It’s just a pleasant and overall fresh smelling scent.

Check out the brief description from the Jo Malone website:

Childhood memories of blackberry picking…stained lips, sticky palms. A burst of deep, tart blackberry juice, blending with the freshness of just-gathered bay and brambly woods. A vibrant and verdant fragrance.

I’m no expert fragrance reviewer but I know what I like. I do smell the grapefruit and berries in this one but I’m not sure where that fresh-just showered scent (do experts call them “notes?”) is coming from. I wish I knew. It’s almost like the scent of the woods. Or what a crisp clear Fall morning smells like. I think a lot of people are going to be drawn to this aspect of Blackberry & Bay because this isn’t an overly girly frilly scent. Don’t get me wrong I do love those fragrances also but this is a great subtly feminine one that can appeal to the fruity flowery set and the fresh/clean woodsy perfume buyers out there. Quite a huge accomplishment in my opinion.

Blackberry & Bay (30ml-$60)

There are two sizes available. I opted for the smaller 30ml bottle. The large 100ml bottle retails for $110. After all I am still loving my most recent Jo Malone purchases White Lilac & Rhubarb, Plum Blossom, and Wild Bluebell. You can get up close and personal with this new Jo Malone scent at Neiman Marcus. I purchased mine from there and they are going FAST. Nordstrom has this also. If you can’t find this near you jomalone.com can also send this to you if you order it. I do recommend giving it a whiff first before you invest your hard earned $$$. Fragrance is a personal thing. I got a whiff of Drakkar Noir the other day and I wanted to punch the innocent guy that was wearing it.

This Just In: Jo Malone Plum Blossom Cologne

I love Jo Malone Fragrances. They just can’t be beat in my book. I got the limited edition White Lilac & Rhubarb recently and I love it. Plum Blossom (1 oz./$55) is limited edition as well so I was so glad to get one of the last bottles from Neiman Marcus before it’s gone. I smelled it when it first came out and loved it. I waited a bit to purchase. Sometimes I worry about using all of my perfumes up in time. But I think they have a decent shelf life so I’m safe.

Here is the description of the scent from the Jo Malone website:

The fruitful freshness of yellow plum, its floral heart blooms on a background of creamy sandalwood and clean, white musk. Inspired by cerise, Plum Blossom opens with the fruitful freshness of yellow plum, its floral heart blooms on a background of creamy sandalwood and clean, white musk.

Plum Blossom is available in two sizes. The larger bottle is $110. Check this out before its gone if your looking for something fresh and fruity. Neimans, Nordstrom, and the Jo Malone website are great places to take a look at some great scents! Some favorites in my Jo Malone collection are Orange Blossom, Red Roses, and Nectarine Blossom & Honey.

This Just In: Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue

I’ve been wanting to get this for a while. This has been out for years and I never smelled it until several weeks ago. I have been thinking about getting it since the first sniff! I love clean fresh scents mixed with flowers so I picked up a small bottle of this. Here is a good description of this scent from the Sephora website.

A stunning perfume, overwhelming and irresistible like the joy of living. Surprising and colored: the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells. Feminine and resolute: the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose. Deep and true: the character of cedarwood, the fullness of amber, the embrace of musk.
Notes:
Sicilian Citron, Bluebell, Granny Smith Apple, Jasmine Sambac, Bamboo, White Rose, Cedarwood, Amber, Musk.

I got the .84 oz bottle for $47, I like to get the smallest size I can since I like to use different scents each day. If I get a 1 oz. or so bottle then I can use the bottle up before it goes bad. There is nothing worse than a scent you love going bad because it didn’t get used in time!

Jennifer Aniston Eau De Parfum…Again

I am not a fan of celebrity scents usually but this one made the cut. I am on my second bottle which is practically unheard of for me. I have a whole cabinet of fragrances that I love and I think there are only two that I have bought twice over many years. Beautiful and Pleasures by Estee Lauder.

The Jennifer Aniston perfume is just too good. I love it, click here for my first review of it back in April. I was even in a New York Post article talking about it. Click here for a link to that article online. My mom called me a bully for what I said about Angelina Jolie! My momma is a secret fan I think….

Anyway perfume is a very hard thing to describe for me. This fragrance just smells fresh and good, it’s as simple as that. You either like it or you don’t. The next time you are at Sephora or Ulta check out this perfume and see if you like it. I picked up another 1 oz. ($39) bottle at Ulta this morning.

Burberry Body- Have You Smelled This?

I really want to get a whiff of this. It came out on the 1st of this month and I really am curious. I’ve been watching the reviews on Sephora.com and they are interesting. The different notes included in this one have me thinking that I’ll either love it or hate it which is the case with most perfumes anyway. I copied the notes for the scent from Sephora.com and they are as follows:

Notes:
Freesia, Green Absinthe, Peach, Rose, Iris, Sandalwood, Cashmeran, Musk, Amber, Vanilla.

Interesting huh? I went to the Burberry website and they have all kinds of things going on for this. The girl from the last Transformers movie is half-naked in a trench coat and then you see a bottle of perfume slowly twisting around accompanied by haunting music. That tells me nothing.

Let me know if you like this new Burberry creation, I’d love to know!

Stella McCartney It-Dress Collection Perfume

Have you seen this? These beautiful bottles are calling to me from the Sephora website and I’ve been stalking/gazing at them for weeks. It’s $52 for 1 oz. of this so I am definitely going to have to get a whiff of this before I even think about getting it. I love the bottles. Here is some information about the scent from Sephora.com.

A fragrance based on the contrast between the freshness and softness of the rose and the dark sensuality of amber. Stella is a sophisticated scent focused on an intense sense of femininity.

Notes: Rose, Peony Flower, Mandarin, Rose Absolute, Amber.

Style: Sensual. Intense. Feminine.

Sounds good doesn’t it? Let me know if you’ve smelled this, I’d love to know what you think!

Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Cologne

I love Jo Malone scents. I have a few of them as you can see above so when a new one came out that I thought I’d like I was easily seduced into it! The fact that the ad campaign includes bunnies didn’t hurt either:)

Seriously I went to the counter to give it a whiff and loved it. Here is the description from the Jo Malone & Fragrantica websites:

An imaginative scent, drenched in the delicate sweetness of sapphire blooms. And wild, because it’s a pretty quirky take, inspired by a wickedly whimsical, contemporary fairytale starring Wild Bluebell herself. With persimmon, lily of the valley and eglantine, its lush transparency is decidedly naughty…but nice.

Top notes: bluebell and cloves
Heart: lily of the valley, jasmine, rose hip
Base: white amber and musk

It’s a lovely scent but it doesn’t last at all on me. It fades like a demon! I’ve been using it since I got it and there isn’t any lasting power! I’m so disappointed because I really like the way it smells. I’m glad I got the 30ml ($55) instead of the big one. Oh well out of the beautiful scents that I have so far from Jo Malone one miss isn’t all that big a deal. I have my eye on an amazing mix of vanilla and rose that’s limited edition from them. It smells so good, I never would have thought those two scents would mix together so beautifully. Hopefully I can pick that up before it disappears!

Do you have any Jo Malone fragrances that you love? Let me know I’d love to check them out on my next visit to the counter!

Disclosure: I purchased this item myself!

Clean Skin

I’m a big fan of Clean fragrances. I have seven of them! They are addictive because they are so fresh and light and never overpowering. I highly recommend them if you like smelling like you just stepped out of the shower. That’s the best way that I can describe the scents that I have so far. They are perfect for summer and that’s when I use them the most. Who doesn’t want to smell like they just took a shower on a 95 degree day? And you can’t overdo these. In fact if there is someone in your life that overdoses on heavy perfume get them a Clean fragrance. There will be an improvement trust me!

Here are some details on Skin from the Sephora website, it’s $69 for 2.14 oz.:

This fragrance captures the delicate scent of bare skin. Hints of dewy flower petals wrap around notes of pure creaminess and warm musk to evoke the simple scent of touchable skin. Enticing, fresh, pure. Clean skin at its best.

Notes:
Sheer Honeydew, Lotus Blossom, Fresh Air Accord, Dewy Petals, Aquatic Notes, Blue Rose, White Musks, Amber Wood, Creamy Vanilla.
Style:
Enticing. Fresh. Pure.

I am going to have to look out for this and get a whiff! It sounds right up my alley:)

Burberry Body Perfume

A few of you asked me how to get a free sample of the new Burberry scent called Body.

It’s through Burberry’s Facebook page, click here for the link to it!

Joy by Jean Patou

This is a beautiful fragrance. It’s one of the special ones in my small perfume collection. I coveted this fragrance for years and finally I got it last December. It was such a great purchase because it was on my honeymoon! We ok to be honest I went a little nuts in one of those fantastic perfume heaven type spots on an island. You know the ones where everything is 20% off or more and between the heady scents and the blazing sun you kind of loose it and buy way more than you should? That’s where I picked this up.

It’s way too expensive. But until now I never knew why. I did a little research and my God these little bottles are full of expensive stuff! Joy was created in 1929, according to Wikipedia in reaction to the Wall Street crash. It was created for Jean Patou’s design house because so many women couldn’t afford expensive clothes anymore due to the financial problems the country was facing after the crash. Ok so back to why it’s so expensive…its a combination of jasmine and rose. To be exact 10,000 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses per 30ml’s of perfume. WOW! There are some other flowers included in the scent but so many that its hard to identify at least to my untrained nose.

In 2003 a scent for younger women was created by the house of Jean Patou called En Joy. I am going to be on the lookout for it, I’d love to smell it!
