Speckle Wars: The Update!

Hard Candy Jelly Bean Blue, Illamasqua Speckle, and Deborah Lippmann I’m Not Edible

On Monday I painted my nails with a variety of “speckle” polishes. I used Hard Candy’s Jelly Bean Blue ($4), Illamasqua Speckle ($16), and Deborah Lippmann’s I’m Not Edible ($19) and days later they all look really good! I used my favorite base coat lately Butter London’s Nail Foundation and two coats of each color, and then a top coat of Seche Vite.

Take a look at how my little piggys look four days later.

The only wear is on the Hard Candy shade (the blue color) in the bottom corner. The Deborah Lippmann wore a little on the bottom of my pinky nail. So pretty good right? Well thats my left hand. Did I mention I was right handed…..?

The Hard Candy suffered a bit more on my hard working right hand. I didn’t open coke cans with my nails I just did regular activities. So expect that the Hard Candy is beautiful and at $4 a steal but….its more likely to chip. The Illamasqua and Deborah Lippmann really went the distance. Grrrrr.

So there you go. I can’t wait to paint my nails. I’m in need of a speckle break ha!

Thank you so much for directing me to your blog! You have just helped me justify the cost of either getting the Illamaqua polish at Sephora or trying to purchase the Deborah Lippmann. I really think I am leaning toward Deborah Lippmann’s Rockin Robin. Great detailed post! I always look forward to your videos so I think I need to make checking your blog a regular thing as well.

I painted my nails with Jelly Bean Blue last night – I’ve already received more compliments than I ever have had! But, the first coat was incredibly difficult!

Thanks Crystal! I’m loving this shade

I just picked up two bottles of the Hard Candy. LOL. Oh well. At least I know what to expect. Thanks for your blog and this review.

Ok so I didn’t buy the higher end speckles , but I did buy the hard candy in the blue and purple. I am 5 days in with very little chipping! But I am using the essie base coat ( it’s the blue one) and I am finding that I can go 6+ days without any major chipping! So you may want to check it out ;) I’ve never had a base coat that could do that before. Now here’s my question, how the heck did you get this off?! Lol . I am using pure acetone and its barely budging :( oh well I guess it’s a trade off huh… Anyways let me know what you use thanks!

I’ll check out that essie base coat for sure thank you! I used pure acetone too. I soaked a cotton ball and held it over each nail for a few seconds and then got it off. Thanks again!

Thank you for the review. At first I wasn’t too crazy about the speckled nail phenomenon ( just thought it looked like you had a disease on the nail) but I tested out an Illamasqua shade in Sephora and I liked it. Personally, I like the look of Illamasqua’s better because the speckles are larger. Still deciding if I will buy it though. Love your reviews.

I have the hard candy polish in jelly bean blue as well but unfortunately it’s SO hard to remove. I use the same technique with other glittery polishes and it still didn’t come off. I needed someone else to help me get all of the blue specks off :/

Thanks for the review! I’m happy to hear the Illamasqua fared well because I think it’s my favorite. The speckle distribution is perfect ;) haha
